Title: GIPF

I highly recommend this series.  Kris Burm really hit it out of the park with these games.  AND the art design is by Lucifer!!

I've got Yinsh, and have enjoyed playing with my wife. One of these days I'll pick up Dvonn and Zertz.

The names of these always sound like some sort of racial slurs to me.

DVONN is fucking awesome. I really like all of the GIPF games, but DVONN is a step above the rest.

Yup. I still remember our discussion about that. Which is why DVONN is at the top of the queue.  :)

They are some of the best looking abstracts games out there.

But the couple of ones that I've played haven't done much for me.

I'm not a huge abstract player so I'm not the best judge but so far each one does has the criteria of good abstracts for me.  Very easy rules, I get better every play but also feel I could become even better, strategies that do open into great strategies that take several moves to achieve.

The look of each and cost make them easy buys, but I'm not a GO or Chess player so in comparison to those classics I can't say.  I do like these a bit more than Mancala, Blokus, Hive and Twixt stuff.

PUNCT reminds me a lot of Twixt or Hex (or possibly a cool combination of the two). If you're looking for a good way to try Go, just to get a taste, you might want to look for a copy of the free version if IgoWin (if it still exists). Nice little Winbloze program that will play 9x9 games with you and track your progress.

Can we guess the next name in the series?

I'm going with KRAPF.

I don't think there are any more in the series.  cycle is finished.

I have a GO app but I suck at it.  I played Go once against a 12 year old girl.  I was handicapped severely and massacred.  The 12 year old girl looked so entirely bored to be playing me.

Even though I'm no Go player I love this show HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it to everyone as just an all around fantastic show.

Hikaru no Go was a pretty good series. Still have a Sai figure around here someplace.
