Title: GIPF Post by: dragonblaster on July 11, 2014, 02:30:31 pm I highly recommend this series. Kris Burm really hit it out of the park with these games. AND the art design is by Lucifer!!

They do, don't they? :D Title: Re: GIPF Post by: kira1y on July 22, 2014, 08:43:25 pm I've got Yinsh, and have enjoyed playing with my wife. One of these days I'll pick up Dvonn and Zertz. DVONN is fucking awesome. I really like all of the GIPF games, but DVONN is a step above the rest. Which is why DVONN is at the top of the queue. :) Title: Re: GIPF Post by: anarchy on July 22, 2014, 08:51:08 pm They are some of the best looking
But the couple of ones that I've played haven't done much for me. Title: Re: GIPF Post by: dragonblaster on July 23, 2014, 01:28:39 pm I'm not a huge abstract player so I'm not the best judge but so far each one does has the criteria of good abstracts for me. Very easy rules, I get better every play but also feel I could become even better, strategies that do open into great strategies that take several moves to achieve.
The look of each and cost make them easy buys, but I'm not a GO or Chess player so in comparison to those classics I can't say. I do like these a bit more than Mancala, Blokus, Hive and Twixt stuff. Title: Re: GIPF Post by: kira1y on July 23, 2014, 01:34:08 pm PUNCT reminds me a lot of Twixt or Hex (or possibly a cool combination of the two). If you're looking for a good way to try Go, just to get a taste, you might want to look for a copy of the free version if IgoWin (if it still exists). Nice little Winbloze program that will play 9x9 games with you and track your progress.
Title: Re: GIPF Post by: Calandale on July 23, 2014, 02:22:31 pm Can we guess the next name in the series?
I'm going with KRAPF. Title: Re: GIPF Post by: kira1y on July 23, 2014, 02:23:39 pm Title: Re: GIPF Post by: dragonblaster on July 23, 2014, 04:13:04 pm I don't think there are any more in the series. cycle is finished.
I have a GO app but I suck at it. I played Go once against a 12 year old girl. I was handicapped severely and massacred. The 12 year old girl looked so entirely bored to be playing me. Even though I'm no Go player I love this show HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it to everyone as just an all around fantastic show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3iQPaEuvaY Title: Re: GIPF Post by: kira1y on July 23, 2014, 04:31:50 pm Hikaru no Go was a pretty good series. Still have a Sai figure around here someplace. |
