46  Gaming Stuff / Military Games / Re: Late-period WW2 Games - Red Storm Over/Storming the Reich on: July 22, 2014, 09:05:16 pm
I have the new Mighty Endeavor, its going on the table soon. I liked the original. I played Red Storm over the Reich a couple of months ago. I liked it. Its a big game and has quite unique mechanics. Took awhile for the rules to fully sink in but it was worth it.

Life is like a box of chocolates. Somebody already took a bite out of every piece.  Grin

All the rail lines go through Polotsk. It has to be taken as quickly as possible so your rail repair units can extend your supply lines.

The vitriol hasn't been on one side.

Only partially true. One side (atheists) acted (troll) the other side reacted. Here is unlike BGG where the reactors are punished.  Sad

I'll be posting pics here from my Proud Monster Deluxe game and my Ukraine 43 play tests.

I like both Baltic Gap and The Blitzkrieg Legend.  I'm playing Doug Brunton , he commands the Germans.

53  Gaming Stuff / Military Games / Re: Defining wargame--(not what you think) on: July 22, 2014, 04:22:14 pm
What is the defining wargame to you personally?

In other words, what game embodies everything that a wargame should be, i.e. what is the quintessential wargame?

For example, someone once asked me a similar question about rock music. My answer was the Rolling Stones' Satisfaction. It's not my favorite song (although it is quite good), I'm not sure I would even call it the best rock song. But, to me, it embodies everything that a Rock song should be. If someone was completely ignorant of Rock music it is the song that I would play for them to show them what Rock music is.

Right band wrong song (Satisfaction is great!). Gimme Shelter, best song ever. An oldie that sounds great every time I hear it!  Cool
Wargame, I'm not joking this is me real opinion-Case Blue!

I think FtP was one of the worst games and biggest disappointments. The hideous point to point map (that channels movement and removes maneuver ) , the horrible rulebook, the complete lack of history. I rated it a 4 or 5 on BGG out of kindness.

Let the haters hate. There so not worth wasting your time on.  Cool

I don't give a rats ass what people believe about religion. Thats there personal decision. However the religion bashing going on here by some is really nasty, rude, and ignorant.

I was going to do this privately but why not do it publicly? Congrats Calendale!

The picture is the end of turn 2 and I assure you the Russians can do it every time. Many, many plays. I was a play tester of the game.

In sheer casualties, it's maybe a third of the other loses suffered in
Eastern Ukraine. Such accidental targets seem fairly likely in a war zone.

How is this more poignant than violating national territory and annexing some of it?

Shouldn't more blame be leveled on the airline which chose to fly through such conditions?
Or to the organizations which okay such flight plans? I mean come on, it's like trying to cross
a highway blind, and then holding the drivers responsible.

No. The blame has been put squarely where it belongs. The neo Soviets.
