I think free works best for a forum by itself. If you want to expand in to a full web site (not a bad idea for blogs and videos), I used Fatcow.com and had no complaints. At the time they had the best combination of price and user ratings. Maybe this could be funded by a tip jar or even a Kickstarter.

What I can't stand is people who just mosey along in the left lane without passing anyone, so nobody else can get past. It's a big problem in Florida. The law is "slow traffic keep right", but these dorks are so caught up in their own little worlds they have no concept of anyone else. Usually either a blue-hair or someone on a cell phone. ...or if it is something specific to California drivers (we are the worst drivers, right?)... You've obviously never been to Michigan. No fault insurance FTW!! Massachusetts and Connecticut have you both beat. Don't even get me started on the drivers up there.

I managed to sell enough at a flea market to keep my collection at a steady size in spite of new acquisitions. The biggest downsizing I did was last year when I sold about 300 books to a local dealer.

The point of the red X would be to let the complainers think thier complaint was being registered somewhere whilst distracting them from the "Report to Moderator" link that might actually do something.

In too many ways, the modern world has become about the packaging and using these false impressions, rather than about the substance. To me the complaint is really about an absence of true professionalism, with a false image of professionalism where none truly exists. It's about mass marketing and the idea that one size can be made to fit all (or at least that a few different sizes can be made to fit a market that's been lumped into a few convenient categories) by pandering to the lowest common denominator, and the result is mass-market crap: next thing you know we're all eating McDonalds, drinking Budweiser, and playing Monopoly. Quality has become a boutique market, whether for food, beer, games, or whatever.

I've been thinking about the old Mellencamp song, with the line "life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone." My father always connected with it so much. To me though, the thrill of living was almost NEVER there. I had my moments of real LIVING (like on the stage, or dancing), but usually they only happened in my most disordered and risky times in my life - the times when the future seemed bleakest.
Without a job now for some time - and feeling somewhat hopeless at actually finding one where my strengths lie without violating some sort of morals (like looking harder), I feel I may be on the edge of such a time. In some ways, I'm hoping for that - my life has been too comfortable. But, it's stressful; always is.
Clearly you love talking about games, so make that your job. I think you should make your own gaming site with videos as the focus. Pull all your links from BGG and put them in your own site. Invite others to contribute. Sell advertising. You won't get rich off it but if you do it right you'll bring in a few bucks, and maybe it can lead to something bigger.
