Does OOTP handle the pre free-agent market well?
There are reserve clause rules, but I've never played with them. From what I understand it does a good job at simulating baseball's history.

Note that I haven't played it yet - so, I'm just giving my impression on reading the rules a couple times.
I miss things like the loose cannon. I DEFINITELY am not happy with stragglers being abstracted the way in which they are. Taking the gun loss table out, and adding losses (which can be recovered!) is again a situation where I suspect I'm losing little bits of the story. There's other stuff (like the stoppage) that I can't even guess which way I'll feel. Ah, and no localized ammo depletion for small arms fire. Also looks like you can't divert artillery ammo to other units - which seems actually too restrictive. The steps in fire combat and melees have all been simplified too - each step told a little bit of the story. It may all be as more 'realistic', but there are details being burned away.
I'll say this much, RSS (as opposed to CWB) felt like too much effort. But now, I'm afraid the game is going to be too abstracted for my taste. We'll see. At the worst, I have v3.0 of the RSS (not going to print a rulebook for v4.0, but maybe there's a changelog). Most likely, I'll bastardize what I really know I like out of LOB. For example, the locking ZOCs.
Do you know if you'll be vidding LOB anytime soon? I'm interested in your first impressions.

Pirates fan here - been one since the 1970's. Last season was really sweet after 20 years of losing, and they're doing well again this season. Beating up on the Dodgers tonight, so tomorrow will be the rubber game of the series.
Thank you for beating the Dodgers.

Not sure why I didn't think of that. Maybe because most places I've been, they're considered the standard these days. Well, that and the turn-based threw me off. Most of what I've played are more like 1st Person Shooters than anything else. Meh, **** like Fallout 3 and Oblivious barely qualify as rpg's I very much disagree about the original Fallout. The combat was hardly tactical and actually quite poor, what made Fallout rich was the C&C (choices and consequences), as well as the exploration and world building. They feel more true to the genre to me than say the old Fallout or Baldur's Gate did. Those felt like I was playing tactical games, rather than role playing ones.

Red Winter is an excellent choice due not only to being a great classic style wargame but all the support for it and the bite size chunks really lets you enjoy the narrative. It is an amazing story. CSI is the place to put together a great package of GMT titles right now. They have several titles in the $23.50 - $35.00 range that have a lot of bang for the buck and if you go with the free shipping by getting $100 worth it is a huge cash saving. Current titles in that range include: Chandragupta (GBoH) Chariots of Fire (GBoH) Dead of Winter (AWC)Devil's Horsemen: The Mongol War Machine in the 13th Century (GBoH) FAB: Sicily Nightfighter The entry starts here http://www.coolstuffinc.com/page/716And as the name says I am heavy into PnP. It's all about picking the right printer and materials (having a laser printer is great for rules - with color of course it's all about the ink carts) and you can make everything from no assembly required all the way up to a monster game that is available at no cost (the designer is a very cool guy). And there are a lot of titles to choose from. Let me know and I'll zip up a bundle for you to look over (these are all available free from the designers). And welcome to The Box...if you need anything just post...there's a lot of wargame experience in here. Kind of off topic, but I've been considering picking up Dead of Winter. I've heard horrid things about the level of errata etc, and this has turned me off. Does anyone here have experience with the game and can advise me one way or the other.

Only sport I ever was interested in.
That's because its the best sport. I have noticed that boardgamers tend to like baseball more than other sports. Of course, this could only apply to the local gamers here. People who play cRPGs often like it as well. It's because it's a stat driven, turn based game that's more mental than physical.

Can discuss baseball of all kinds, but focused on MLB here.
Not too many games left in the season. There's a lot of close races, especially in the Real Baseball league.
Who here has a team they follow? This could be a really exciting year for the division races.

A neat thing in Out of the Park Baseball is random debut where you start in any year you want and every year it introduces players from every point in baseball's history. You can start with an inaugural draft too, so you can have Babe Ruth, Nolan Ryan, and Mike Trout on the same team going against Derek Jeter, Mickey Mantle, and Honus Wagner. It can be quite amusing.
