And now...the novelty is wearing off.

A small handful can't keep a place thriving.

There's not a group of ASLers that you can **** off who will flock here to spur discussion and make things interesting.  Grin

So we'll be inundated with 'What is a wargame?' threads, then?   Grin

Serious question: Are there too many forums* here for the number of users at this point? With a substantial number of users I think the organization would work. But at this point, in an attempt to spur discussion, splitting it into gaming and nongaming forums might be best. Just a thought.

Well, I guess that depends on how you define success for something like this. If the extent of moderation is minimal and there is low but steady-quality traffic, why not let it run and see what happens? You may see slow but steady growth in the long term.

Alternately, if you really want to boost traffic, make this place an 'official' home for your vids (yeah, yeah they're on YouTube, but you know what I mean). Use the blog section and have one thread per vid where the first post is your vid and the rest is the peanut gallery piping in.

You got pretty good name recognition for your vids (heck, you even have a microbadge). In fact, once you set things up the way you want here, spam every BGG user who has your microbadge about this forum and that it's now housing your vids. You just might be surprised.

Nah. They only care if someone might actually SEE the questions.

I like latin. Forums sounds totally wrong. So does penises, but the plural is NOT penii, but rather penes.

I don't think the number is problematic. It's pretty easy to scan everything - and we've already got more threads
than fit in the popular sections. Most importantly, it reflects a desire for this not to be only a wargaming
forum.

I don't even notice the different forums for the most part. I use the "Show unread posts since last visit" link at the top.

Ditto! It's a great feature!

The only problem is, if you come to the site and don't read all the new posts, the next time you show up those posts won't be listed.

Nah, I'm pretty sure they remain listed until you read them.

They stay till you read them (or at least click on them).

With three new games in the house and finally locating and ordering the large flatbed scanner that I have needed for months has kept me jumping. That and the FUCKING DOT making my life hell this week...well you witnessed how that turned out in the Religion forum. Yeah I was pissed.

Now I'm trying to shake whatever this sinus thing is and get back on track. I have to clear a spot to set my gear and games back up again (did I mention how I HATE the FUCKING DOT...word of advice: DON'T EVER BUY A HOUSE).

It's good being a little more general in subject matter and we need to get other parts of the game community in the house. I'm a piss poor example of a designer at this point so I think getting some of the young turks to show and enticing others to follow would be a great help. I mean there are more people reading the threads than are registered. Work on getting the lurkers in to play. That helped.

I think you will see fluctuations as people find their place here. And I too use the two links at the top to keep up to date.

Just remember the post about being a wargamer who posted in the forum over at BGG. Most of them had never posted before that day and likely have never posted again.

I think things are proceeding nicely. Plus it's summer. The numbers increase as cold weather hits. So onward and upward! Smiley

Hmmm....I thought I came on during work and read a couple of threads, but had 15-20 listed and then when I looked from home there was like 5.

Show unread posts since last visit.

Seems to indicate it clears them if you leave.
