Ye Olde Dead CCG Thread

So another thread got me thinking about dead CCGs. I went through a phase of collecting them, and have amassed many, many cards of the following:

Mythos (complete!)
7th Sea (rollicking fun)
Legend of the Burning Sands (really fun game - the water management mechanic is great)
Dune CCG (my fave dead CCG - captures the essence of the Dune universe)
Middle Earth CCG (truly impressive - more depth than most CCGs)
Wars TCG (not too impressed)

Dead CCGs that I'm interested in but haven't gotten into:

Jyhad
Deadlands: Doomtown
On The Edge (been really interested in this one - sounds surreally Lynchian)
Babylon 5 CCG (apparently the political interactions are great)

Not-So-Dead CCGs:

Shadowfist (my absolute fave - captures the spirit of every martial arts grindhouse action flick you can imagine)
L5R (kinda got obsessed with collecting the Diamond edition - plays like a wargame - promised it off to a friend, though)

So what have you collected or have been interested in possibly collecting?

Some of my first gaming experiences were CCGs. Magic and Pokemon. Both of which I no longer own any of (sadly). All my Magic cards got either lost, given away, or sold when my parents moved out of the country, and I gave all my Pokemon cards to my friend. I think they're still sitting in his drawer in his old room.

I've been waiting to swoop on a cheap collection of the X-Files CCG, since the girlfriend and I are huge X-Files fans (can't wait for the boardgame to come out), and it sounds like an interesting game (clue on speed?).

Straight 40 card deck, ante, no silly other restrictions.
Pretty much ended up just my ex and I playing - though
I did some sealed deck stuff that way eventually.

Never really got into any others during the craze era - though
I've bought some dead sets since then. Don't think I've played a one

I'm sure they are. I kept hoping the fad would die out, so I could scoop up a lot of old stuff cheaply.

My wife doesn't care for deckbuilding either. What I've taken to doing with games like Mythos and Shadowfist is to amass deck recipes from the respective communities and use them as preconstructed decks. The nice thing about having a crapload of cards is that you have pretty good odds of having the right cards to build from a recipe.

The Battletech CCG is worth tracking down. It's very combat orientated. In some respects, it is a better design than MTG. You can see Garfield futzing with his Magic ideas to improve the resource management, for example.

The original Star Wars CCG was fun, but if you didn't like Wars, you probably won't like it.

Battletech was Garfield? Didn't know that.

I really should give Wars another chance. It felt rather generic and uninspiring the first time I tried it.

Garfield knocked out RoboRally, Netrunner, Battletech and Jyhad a few years after the debut of MTG. He seemed unstoppable.

Then came Filthy Rich, Rocketville and string of others for years. Yuck. Every game designer must have their Waterloo and Rocketville is it for Garfield.

His King of Tokyo is enjoyable filler.

My wife and I bought a few boxes of Magic cards after we were married. Never intended to collect, or to keep up with, we just filled two shoeboxes and slap decks together from those.

My kid and I broke them out and played a bit a few months ago, pretty fun.

I'm actually enjoying dabbling with Hearthstone on the iPad.

I still have a bunch of Magic cards although I culled a large chunk a few years ago.  I was a pretty avid collector and player up through the Ravnica block.  These days, I don't play very much but I'll kind of keep track of new stuff coming out and pick up an odd pack here and there.  I think I'll always like the game.

I used to have a ton of others, but over time got rid of everything.  Mostly I would pick up a starter, maybe a couple boosters but they would never get much playtime.  At the time, everyone was so invested in Magic.

A couple others I remember:
On The Edge - I wish I still had this.  From what I remember, gameplay-wise it was pretty similar to Magic, but had such a weird and cool setting.  I even picked up some Over The Edge RPG books just to read about it.
Jyhad - I remember liking it, but could never get anyone to play.

Yeah, I also tried out Jyhad back when it came out - but it was right around freshman year of college, and I was pretty much getting out of MTG at the time.  So I never got too far into it.  But I liked the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, so the subject appealed to me.
