All the Soviets need now is for Alexander Nevsky and his troops to swoop over Lake Peipus on the right flank there and it's in the bag ...

 Wink

Oh wait.... here he comes now!

On a more serious note ....

Do you OCS gurus prefer Baltic Gap over The Blitzkrieg Legend? Just curious. Or is it apples and oranges?

I do, but that might just be due to the fact that I find the situation more interesting.

Who ya playing, Bill?

I like both Baltic Gap and The Blitzkrieg Legend.  I'm playing Doug Brunton , he commands the Germans.

The extent of my OCS experience has been soloing Burma and then soloing Baltic Gap on two separate occasions.

I think I've started to get some of the basic strategies--though I certainly wouldn't consider myself remotely competent. Seeing the western half of the Baltic Gap map and the units starting to surround Polotsk makes me wonder what your strategy is with respect to that area. Is it a matter of cutting off supply to the city and just let the OOS effects eventually take care of the city. Or is it a more aggressive strategy, trying to actually make attacks on the city? How quickly do you need the VPs for the city without putting yourself behind where you need to be?

All the rail lines go through Polotsk. It has to be taken as quickly as possible so your rail repair units can extend your supply lines.

There!

That right there is exactly what I want in an operational/strategic game.  Taking Polotsk is not just VP. Not just one less urban centre for the defender to nut up in. Rather, it allows for the application of an important game mechanic, supply, to become more of a factor.

I like that.

I am quickly approaching my annual set up an OCS game, look at it and then take it down again.  It feels more likely that i will get to shift cardboard this year!

Is there some sort of German attrition mechanism during the winter?

I've picked up the original proud monster cheaply.

Figured I'd look at that. Kinda like getting Enemy at the Gates instead of Case Blue.
