I'm continuing to read Zamoyski's 'Rites of Peace', which focusses on events surrounding the Congress of Vienna.

He does a really good job of making the central players come alive. His portrayal of Metternich is particularly interesting.

Why do we need monthly editions?

Yeah one long reading thread would probably work ok here, doubt the traffic is going to be high enough yet to warrant monthly ones.

As for reading, I jjust finished Outlaw by Angus Donald

Been in a Robin Hood kind of mood so I've read a few different retellings.

Not sure what to start next though.

Dunno. Habit? It would be easier not to. Any way we can change the current thread title to 'What are you reading?' ?

(EDIT) Never mind - I figured it out.   Grin

Once a thread gets very long though (thousands of pages) it will have to be locked and restarted.
There are performance issues with exceedingly long threads.

Reading Holger Herwig's book on the Battle of the Marne, 1914:

Interestingly, in his designer notes for 1914: Offensive a outrance, Michael Resch described Herwig's book as "a step back in scholarship" on the subject.  I've found it interesting enough, but the maps are terrible.

War by Sebastian Junger. It's a grunts-eye view of a tour in Afghanistan's Korengal valley in 2007. I like the authors style; makes for an easy read. Not related to what I'm playing now but the book makes me want to revisit A Distant Plain.

Cast Iron Charlie (Charles Sorensen) - "My forty years with Ford".  VERY good read to prepare you for Martin Wallace's Automobile.

With a name like Cast Iron Charlie - you just have to read this one.

Been delving into Colombian history for a bit now as I've been exploring Andean Abyss. Very cool stuff so far, and I like how this book doesn't focus on just the drugs and violence (though it doesn't leave it out) which helps bring together some understanding of Colombian culture.
