The Primer matches up well with sections of the rulebook. Read a few sections of the rulebook and then read the corresponding sections of the Primer. When you're ready to start pushing cardboard hit the first scenario from Prague. It's a straight up infantry assault (with a few arty pieces thrown in). You can even print out the small portion of the map from the BAR site. The second scenario is all Cavalry and the third combines the first two scenarios.
