Another plus for here as compared to BGG -- the work firewall blocks URLs with "games" but not "game".

As for BGG -- they have a fantastic database (and I appreciate all the users who provide that data), but the administration leaves quite a bit to be desired.  They're still getting money from me, but I'm seriously questioning it with the gratutious damage they've done to GeekLists (I'd already cut my donation based on poor forum moderation and horrible news judgment, but they might end up with a token penny this year).

...and he has a long history of being a slumlord and making much worse racist comments about his tenants, and then intentionally failing to provide the basic services he was contractually obligated to as the landlord. ....

This is the part that I dislike the most. But, it's the phone call which caused the actions.

That's just bs. As a society, we should worry about what has real effects.

Apparently, he knew he was being recorded. Its said that he asked for it because hes losing his mind and wanted to record his thoughts. That's why the recording sounds like an interview rather than an argument.

I'd say his behavior was accurately characterized as reprehensible and disgusting...

Oh he has no class, I agree with that. I was just pointing out the ludicrousness of the media and various Offended Parties using extreme terms that left little room for truly disgusting things.

It is truly disgusting though. That kind of plantation owner mentality is truly disgusting. He made Baron Davis lose his love for the game because he would regularly bring his cronies into the locker room so they could look at their "beautiful black bodies" and show them off like race horses. That's pretty disgusting if you ask me.

Yet the SI swimsuit issue, and playboy magazine are all about that?

I dunno. It seems to me that people are all just pretty fucked up,
and if we could tolerate more of their foibles, the world would be better.

I'm only really upset about what actually hurts people. Like being a
lousy slumlord. I'd have no problem with the New York Degos, Boston
Micks, or Atlanta Niggers as team names. I see no harm to some
old fart treating people like farm animals. I DO however see something
very wrong with the monopolistic setup of the major sports leagues;
that does real harm.

Comparing Donald Sterling to Playboy is ridiculous.

Defending Sterling's behavior is also ridiculous. No matter the angle you take.

Is it as a big a deal as the media made it out to be? Probably not. But what is?

We've become a society of the Offended. Offending someone is quickly becoming the worst sin anyone can do. Somehow, making someone feel bad is akin to murder.

Donald Sterling tells his **** home wrecker in a private phone call not to hang out with black folks. All hell breaks loose, with people using adjectives that used to be reserved for things like, oh I don't know, child **** and genocide.

"Absolutely disgusting!"
"Reprehensible!"
"Staggeringly criminal behavior!"

Atheists get bent out of shape if someone prays at a town meeting, and Christians freak out and make themselves into God when someone curses nearby.

My Redskins will fold soon enough. The Braves, Indians, Seminoles, Blackhawks, will follow.

Tolerance! Stupid Coexist bumper stickers! Yeah.

The Mighty Red-X rules all.

I'm gonna go flip over a Prius, be right back.

I took the general forum off my main menu and am much happier for it.  I'm getting ready to take the wargame forum off too, after the whole "what is a wargame" fiasco.  Especially after one of the worst offenders made a point about how the question was a platform to "behave in an obnoxious manner".  This coming from a guy that might well have earned himself a fat lip for saying what he said in person.   Roll Eyes  Oh well, thanks for letting me vent.

Treating people as objects doesn't strike me as significantly different.

Women or Blacks, it's the same thing.

Shouldn't you be using 3 or 4 more paragraphs to communicate that to us?  Grin

If I recall correctly, Christopher Hitchens said something along the lines of  "When someone tells me they are offended, I'm still waiting to hear what the problem is."

Here, he doesn't have to hide all that he has to say with mindless
blather, in order to avoid being banned.

But yeah, that's about what it always amounts to.

I found this poll on BGG . I believe it refers to Calendale. On the money I would say!!  Smiley

Poll: What is this thread?

What is this thread?
Your Answer         Vote Percent    Vote Count
A cesspool of stupid

   28.3%    15
Blatant purposeless trolling

   41.5%      22

   7.5%    4
Good reading from start to finish

   7.5%    4
Other

   15.1%    8

The results so far are interesting. Note that at the time of this writing there is only 1 response for the third option. I will point out that this option is stated in the OP's own words. By contrast, as it sits now, about 80% of respondents appear to think the thread is either "a cesspool of stupid" or trolling, and in fact a majority (>50%) have interpreted it is a blatant attempt to rile people. Not sure what the 2 "other" votes represent unless they choose to post what they mean.
