What is your perfered method go play with the phyiscal copy or with a vassal type program? I prefered the phyiscal game. I find having the battle laid out on the table more inviting. I seem to have issues using vassel and can not get comfortable with it. I am I alone or do others feel the same Revmidni

I can go both ways.
VASSAL is great when it is a long or large game (I don't have dedicated wargame space) or when I am traveling.
I do enjoy actually pushing counters too. I spend way too much time on the computer anyway.

I really need the board in front of me. I can cope with a tiny board on the computer (barely) but anything bigger than a screen has to be something I can lean over.

I also really like having the board laid out in its entirety in front of me. I played wargames on the PC for years (and still do, occasionally) so I can cope with those, as they're usually designed with a PC screen size in mind, and have plenty of features that can help me cope with a limited view of the entire play area. But if there's a game that I know has a physical board or map, I have a hard time eschewing the board/map for a computer screen version of it.

Physical board for me as well. VASSAL is certainly super cool, and I would use it if I had to. But I have just too many little niggly issues. Banged my hand up, and still don't like using a mouse.

I like both. VASSAL, of course, is more cat proof. A setup physical boardgame, when playing solo, is more guilt-inducing.

I need the physical board. I don't like having to scroll around to see everything, plus the last few times I tried to play on Vassal I got a headache.

I prefer the physical board but since nearly all my games are PBEM I'm mostly using VASSAL.

When I'm learning a new game I need to have the physical board out so I can push counters around as I learn. I've tried using VASSAL to learn, but something in my brain shuts down when I'm staring at a screen.
As far as actually playing games, I don't have the space/time to leave games set up, so VASSAL is really the only option for me.

Physical only.
Never tried VASSAL gaming, but I did look into SFB Online, which is a similar program but specific to SFB. It just didn't click for me.
I've done a few PBEM, but that was with the physical board set up and just exchanging moves in a text file. I was also part of a Diplomacy game that was run through e-mail at our office. We mailed moves in daily and the moderator sent us a JPG with an updated map.
If I want to play on the computer, I want to play a computer game. If I want to play a boardgame, I prefer the physicality.

I prefer physical play over Vassal. Unfortunately it seems that I would be able to get more plays in online vs. face to face. A couple of local guys have tried to get me to try Vassal but I just have not been able to get into it yet. I am however, still open to the experience if I can pry my 17 yo's ass off of the computer chair.

I prefer to play on a actual board, not because I don't like computers, but because you just can't see as much on the computer screen as you can live. On the computer you have scroll around to get the big picture. It's harder to see the relationship of one part of the board to another. But of course when you don't a local opponent, these on-line play systems a way to play.

The poll doesn't have an answer I can use. I like them both. I play ftf as often as possible and play much more on vassal. I play more on vassal because thats where I find opponents not because I like it better. I also play solo games on a table not on vassal (usually).
