I don't remember the guy's name - Jason or something. Real twerp at BGG.
But, people always gave me **** for carving out space for the 'historical only' definition of wargaming, as though the type never existed. I'm kinda glad they're still around. Maintains my sense of balance in the world. I think the feeling may be stronger in the minis side of things.

thanks for creating this forum calen and yes, historical miniature wargames are an excellent source of amusement not only does one learn about battles from across history, but I believe a firm grounding in tactics is aquired with more and more experience in historical games
personally, Ive wargamed across early medieval, late medieval, civil war era, and turn-of-the-century naval wargaming, but found I am most comfortable with modern. of course, modern can encompass a wide range of levels of technology

I wished I would have seen some of those threads/posts ... I think I am in in like 99.9% for the history.
Not much time this morning- so I guess I have to leave this one brief.

I've always felt that SF and fantasy stuff that shares a lot of the core designs of historically based games fits into the hobby, in the sense that the gamers that I grouped with who liked historical were good with stuff that was all make-believe. But, there's always been a wing that held otherwise. Maybe they mainly quit boardgames. Maybe they just got driven from BGG. Dunno.
Such folk would be pretty pissed if asked to play a wargame, to find out that they were playing something based on Lord of the Rings.
