Evolution Games

I've always liked the concept of playing the evolution of critters.

Quirks was my first real taste of this, and though it's a very flawed design,
the little morphic bodies make the game something special. Always wanted
to combine it with Tyranno Ex (a much better game). In some ways,
American Megafauna does this combination - but without the great little
bodies for the critters.

I remember enjoying Primordial Soup and Urland and Knizia's Genesis. Dominant Species, between
lousy gameplay (too much counting) and serious issues of hard-to-believe
operations on the board, really disappointed me greatly.

Any more I should know about?

I really really really want to get into American Megafauna. But then I tell myself I should ease into it by starting with BIOS: Megafauna, which I also have. Then I start trying to read the rules and my eyes glaze over. Frustrating.

I'd bet AMF is easier to learn....

Eklund's rulebooks are far better references when playing than guides to teach the game. But the games are worth the effort.

Eklund's early rules were ok. Nothing to get excited about, but ok.

The later ones strike me as better (but still not good) references for people
wanting to learn about the subject matter than to play the game.

Interesting. I always assumed that BIOS was 'AMF lite', but perhaps I should dive straight into AMF.

It's more of a euro. But, I'm convinced that Phil's rules have gotten worse with every game.


There are vids for both games though. Ricky did Bios. They can help to give an idea of
the flow, so you have a better idea of what is going on in general.
