Title: Mechanism vs. Mechanic
Post by: Cazaril on July 23, 2014, 03:25:00 am
I noticed while watching a 2d6.org video with UndeadViking and Scott Nicholson that there was a serious correction by Scott.

"Mechanism" NOT "Mechanic"

He was really correcting poor Lance on this.

Just thought you should know - maybe the professor is right.  Use "Mechanism", not "Mechanic".

Dunno. I think 'mechanic' is too ingrained in the hobby. It's taken on its own meaning in the context of gaming. This is the cool thing about the English language - it morphs.

I like mechanism better, but do not see this as as serious a flaw as the
misuse of theme or scale.

Still, the definition of 'mechanic' is clearly inapplicable. Mechanics however:

Quote
the branch of applied mathematics dealing with motion and forces producing motion.

could maybe be twisted into usage. It's a stretch.
